Loopholes In Nepal's Education System and A New Approach To Quality Education

The way kids and young minds are being educated in  Nepal is childish and very unscientific in its nature. This is not the case only with Nepal ; it's being practiced in India too to a larger extent. I don't know about other countries but the practice would probably be minimal. The very Foundation on which our education system and methodology is laid upon is  very  rigid, non-dynamic and not in tune with today's demand . The framework with which it is designed lacks enough potential to address the all around development of an individual in its totality. So I have discussed noteworthy loopholes and some black marks of our education system that are debatable:

No attempts being made to raise  the consciousness of an individual student. In most(more than 95%) of the schools ( even where I studied) it has been emphasized to merely give commands to students as if they were in military. Only those students whose vivek is below the threshold level (not developed enough) follow all those commands ( in the name of so called discipline) without a bit using their brain .For instance, why is it necessary to check  students hygiene regularly and punishing them? Why don't we make them competent and conscious enough so that they could take care of their hygiene themselves (without waiting for somebody else to say to Cut nails, brush teeth, cut hair, were clean clothes, etc) and the effort that is wasted in all these nonsense could be invested in educating them.

But there are some students (who used their brain) who rebel against all these traditions. And if the school can't make them silent ,it makes rules that is absurd. For instance in the school where I studied, the principal wanted to make his School an English speaking School. So he made a compulsion for all students speak in English all the time (except in Nepali class) and would make those awadhi speaking students stand out in ground but this was very stupid approach as most of students were not happy. First thing is that it's not a good idea to make a compulsion and forcefully impose your nonsense on little students. Let the students understand that learning English is helpful then they would learn it with absolute devotion but not under pressure. Next thing is that not all speak English right from mother's womb, so there could be awadhi speaking students from village who are still learning Nepali. So punishing them just because they don't know English is an insult to their language. Well its not that we don't need discipline, we do need discipline but that discipline should come from inside of an individual but not imposed by any school or authority. Don't keep those curious eyes of students full of questions, adventure and astonishment in a limited boundary, just let them explore in their own accord.

To put it simply I am saying let's not make any rule that boys must not go girls' toilet rather let's raise enough consciousness in our boys so that they would not need a law but common sense that they should not go girls' toilet.

Teachers not being loving and inspiring rather a jailer and boring.

Former MIT professor Walter Lewin says "Teachers who make class boring are criminals". It's been an increasing issue in Nepal and India .First and foremost thing is that most of the teachers in schools, both private and government are incompetent and arrogant and not devoted to teaching. They lack necessary interaction with students and skills due to which they can't reach to hearts of students. They don't understand that teaching is an art which requires an artist.Have you ever seen any artist boring or unpleasing ?Teachers who choose stick to control students don't understand that they themselves are not able to control their own anger and arrogant nature.Teachers must prove that they are a Worthy teacher (but students are not responsible to prove themselves as they are new) and then student would be attentive , loving and respectful towards them. Teachers must not seek attention and respect from students initially because after they prove themselves then interaction is inevitable.

No place for questions and research.

Whenever I questioned my teachers and school administration mostly I got insult, scolding and stupid assertions.I personally believe a class with zero questions is not worth attending. Questions (only genuine ones) empower obe to increase his perception and ability to grapes reality.

Our education system is marksheet and degree oriented but not research oriented. Must think that education is learning of facts but Einstein says"No,it's training of mind to think ".Education is not any worship culture but sheer exploration which is possible only through research and discussions. For instance, our neighbour India is landing on south pole of moon but we are still struggling with little things.

Theoretical and old fashioned.

Our education system does not emphasize diversity and individual development. Why is it necessary to torture anyone who wants to be a singer, writer, painter with complex mathematics, physics etc. There is much stupid contents that has to be excluded from our syllabus. Unlike Gurukul system ,our education system never addresses non physical and inner dimensions of an individual. Why many educated people are depressed ,not joyful, blissful and not able to have a well understanding and mastery over their own thoughts ,emotions and psychological stuffs? Should education only give you bread earning job but no inner exploration ?I believe every students must involved in their inner exploration i.e yoga-meditation. There is more to eat but I shalll discuss those in other articles.

Therefore our education system has now become uneffective and unworking so it needs a total rejuvenation and redesign.Only then we can produce competent and revolutionary manpower. Having said that,we must strive for right and conscious education because there is one and only one way to revolution and that is education, education and education.
