Gautam Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was born in Lumbini, Nepal in approximately 563 BCE. His birthplace is located in the southern part of Nepal, near the border with India.
According to Buddhist tradition, Gautama Buddha was born into a royal family and lived a privileged life until he renounced his wealth and status to seek enlightenment. He eventually achieved enlightenment while meditating under a bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, and went on to teach the principles of Buddhism until his death at the age of 80.
Today, Lumbini is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists from around the world, and the birthplace of Gautama Buddha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site includes a number of ancient temples, monuments, and archaeological remains, and is visited by thousands of people each year who come to pay homage to the founder of Buddhism.
