Journey of Nepali cricket

Cricket was first introduced in Nepal in the early 1920s by the expatriate Indian community. Over the years, the sport gained popularity and Nepal became a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1988. Nepal's cricket journey had its ups and downs, but the country has produced some remarkable talent and has achieved some notable successes.

The early years of Nepali cricket were challenging as the country lacked proper infrastructure and resources for the development of the sport. However, over the years, the sport gained a significant following, and the Nepali cricket team won the ICC Trophy in 2001, qualifying for the 2002 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal also won the ACC Trophy four times between 1993 and 2010.

In 2013, Nepal became an Associate member of the ICC. This membership allowed the country to play in the ICC World Cricket League and the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. In the same year, Nepal reached the final of the ACC Twenty20 Cup, where they finished runners-up. Nepal's national team also had its first overseas tour to the United Arab Emirates in 2013.

In 2014, Nepal created history by qualifying for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, becoming the first team to qualify for the tournament on debut. Nepal's U19 team also performed well, finishing third in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers, securing a place in the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

In recent years, Nepal has faced several challenges, including a suspension from the ICC in 2016 due to political interference in the administration of the cricket board. However, the suspension was lifted in 2017, and Nepal resumed playing international cricket.

Nepal's cricket journey has been a remarkable one, and the country has come a long way since the early days. Despite the challenges, cricket has continued to grow and gain popularity in Nepal. The national team has produced some outstanding players over the years, including Paras Khadka, who has been instrumental in Nepal's success on the international stage. With the right support and resources, the future of Nepali cricket looks bright, and the country has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with in the world of cricket.
